Finding space for everything in our current library space is a challenge. The first challenge is finding space for the all-important collection. We are out of shelving space. Adding additional traditional shelving, while also meeting basic AODA standards would still leave us approximately 1000 linear feet short on storage space. It would also leave little-to-no space for our patrons. Compact shelving allows us to fit our existing collection, gives us the freedom to expand our collection in the future, all with the added benefit of freeing up more study space.
Access to the library’s mezzanine is not a smooth process in our existing layout. Staff and patrons that require an elevator have to leave the library before entering a secondary door on the mezzanine floor. A new lift in the collections space will allow easy and equitable access to our entire collection and suite of study spaces.
